We have just launched the next set of dates for our Data for Decisions Introductory and Advanced workshops:
- Introductory lecture on the principles of GIS
- Overview of statistical datasets and sources in Ireland (both authorative and open-source)
- Series of practical sessions using QGIS
On completion of the one day workshop users have a much greater awareness of spatial data in Ireland and are able to execute many of the basic functionality in QGIS such as data importing, data management, data analysis and high quality thematic map development.
The Advanced QGIS Workshop is aimed at participants who have attended the 'Data for Decisions' workshop who wish to gain more experience and knowledge on the availability of spatial data and the potential of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to aid spatial analytical techniques.
The workshop includes:
- Spatial analysis and processing skills
- Creating databases and working with Small Areas (SAs)
- Case Studies
On completion of the two day workshop participants will have a much greater understanding of spatial analytical and processing skills such as buffering, geo-coding, spatial querying and joining. Participants will have an opportunity to create databases and utilise datasets from the AIRO Data Store in relation to case studies.

IT requirements: Own laptop with QGIS downloaded prior to the workshop and MS Office installed
