CSO/Pobal HP Deprivation Index

This map illustrates Pobal HP relative deprivation scores in Ireland in 2011. The map is based on the Pobal HP Deprivation Index and mapped at the Small Area level.

This map was produced to support initial workshops for the National Planning Framework in June 2016. The image contains a national map showing the distributions of relative deprivation scores for Small Areas (SAs) across the country. To provide further clarity of distributions within the five national cities we have also included a series of inset maps.

The Pobal HP Deprivation Index was developed by Trutz Haase and Dr. Jonathan Pratschke and was funded by Pobal. It is based on data from the 2011 Census results and shows the overall level of affluence and deprivation based on multiple indicators such as population change, education, unemployment, age dependency etc.

An All Island Deprivation Index has also been developed by Trutz Haase and Dr. Jonathan Pratschke in collaboration with the International Centre for Local and Regional Development and the All Island Research Observatory (AIRO). Visualisations from this project can viewed in the The Atlas of the Island of Ireland. To access the digital interactive mapping tool please visit the The Atlas of the Island of Ireland viewer.
