Central Statistics Office (CSO)

This map illustrates net commuting flow in Ireland (inward less outward) in 2011. The map was produced using results from the Place of Work Census Anonymised Results (POWCAR).

As part of the Census 2011 processing programme a detailed file containing the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of all workers and students resident in Ireland along with information on the origin and destination of their journeys to place of work , school or college has been made available for analysis. Using this dataset AIRO have developed a digital interactive mapping tool to visualise the workforce catchment area of 20 different urban areas. To access the digital interactive mapping tool please visit the POWCAR Commuting Catchments viewer.

This map was produced to support initial workshops for the National Planning Framework in June 2016. The image contains a national map showing the distributions of net commuting flows across the country.

For more details on gaining access to the POWCAR dataset please visit CSO.
