Postcodes, or Eircodes, are on the way and it's now expected that they will be launched at some stage during the summer rather than the previously expected spring launch date.


The All-Island HP Deprivation Index is a joint project that has been developed by Trutz Haase and Dr Jonathan Pratschke in collaboration with the International Centre for Local and Regional Development (ICLRD) and the All-Island Research Observatory (AIRO) at Maynooth University.


The Eircom Spider Awards, the longest standing and most prestigious digital awards in Ireland, took place last night at the Convention Centre Dublin.  Hosted by Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O’Shea from 2FM’s Breakfast Republic, the Eircom Spiders reward Irish businesses and community organisations for digital excellence.


This short piece will provide a useful commentary on some of the key datasets and sources that can be used to develop the Socio-Economic Baseline that will act as a key resource in the Preparation stage of the new LECPs.



Centre for Cross Border Studies (CCBS) Director Ruth Taillon and Justin Gleeson, Director of the All-Island Research Observatory, Maynooth University delivered presentations at a seminar in Strasbourg on 16 and 17 September, on “Prospects for effective transfrontier co-operation in Europe”.


The long standing AIRO Residential Property Index monitoring data viz has been updated to present the latest CSO data relating to the change in property prices in Dublin, Ireland (excluding Dublin) and all of Ireland.

On 8th May 2014 Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi) launched a report by independent economic consultants INDECON into the economic value of the geospatial industry in Ireland.



The Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly have launched on their website a new data dashboard developed by AIRO containing all of the scores and data from the Gateways and Hubs Development Index (GHDI).


Over the past couple of months AIRO has been working with the team at Scoilnet to develop a series of interactive census mapping workplans for Leaving Certificate students. The new tool and workplans were launched today on Scoilnet.


Following the release of the CSO’s November Residential Property Price Index there has been much discussion in the media and from commentators regarding the development of a two-tier housing market in Ireland.


Today marks an important milestone in the development of a new suite of all-island demographic tools and datasets to support evidence-informed planning in Ireland. As of 3pm today, the All-Island Research Observatory (AIRO) at the NUI Maynooth will launch some initial themes from its new on-line digital atlas.
